"Life position" and "I have a reason to do better"

KT Wiz's Chun Sung-ho (28) is set to become a new shortstop in the new season. "I think returning would be more appropriate than challenging. Shortstop is my "life's position" that enabled me to be who I am now," Chun said. 메이저사이트

During the three seasons (2020-2021 and 2023) he played in the first division, Chun Sung-ho, a rookie in 2020, played 720 and 2/3 innings of defense in 182 games. His position was mostly second baseman (543 and 2/3 innings). He played shortstop in four games, and he pitched just 11 and one-third innings. Even that, his last season was in 2020, his debut season.

Why did he call the shortstop his "life's position"? "A shortstop was my main position from middle and high school to college (Dankook University). I always wanted to succeed as a shortstop since I was young. I think it's a great opportunity to play again," Chun said with a big smile.

After serving in the military athletic unit after the 2021 season, Chun had a batting average of .40 for a while early last year. However, his performance dropped to the second division due to sluggish performance since May. In June, when Shim Woo-joon, the main shortstop, was discharged from the military, Kim Sang-soo, the previous shortstop, moved to the second base, and Chun's position disappeared. Since then, Chun played outfield, but failed to stand out.

In 2024, when he experienced both success and failure. Chun Sung-ho participated as an outfielder in the wrap-up camp held in November. He was coached intensively on outfield defense and base running by coach Lee Jong-beom, who is new to KT.

Meanwhile, Shim Woo-joon, who played as a key shortstop at KT, signed a free agent contract with the Hanwha Eagles, which inevitably led to reorganization of the infield. KT coach Lee Kang-chul recommended Chun Sung-ho to move to shortstop. "The coach said, 'The decision is up to you,' but I thought it was an opportunity to recreate my image as an infielder, so I decided to challenge myself," Chun Sung-ho said. "Coach Lee Jong-beom cheered me on by saying, 'I will do better when I return to the infield.' "

In December last year, Chun and Kim Na-eun, who had been together as a campus couple, signed a 100-year-old partnership. "We have developed from friends who take classes together to lovers. They have been rooting for me since I was 20 years old. They even traveled a long distance from me to Mungyeong (when I was a commerce secretary). "I am a grateful bride who helped me with my exercise and took care of my nutrition while working out together," Chun said with a smile. "I am playing professional baseball thanks to my wife. This is why I need to play baseball better."
